One of our favourites! A beautiful, first floor bedroom with a large balcony overlooking the front and side garden of the hotel: Perfect for enjoying a G&T before dinner, or a summer breakfast al fresco.   The room has a sumptuous six-foot bed and two comfortable armchairs. Elegant, antique furniture compliments the old-fashioned wooden beams and panels. The granite tiled modern bathroom has a large bath with fitted shower.

About the River Dart

All of our rooms are named after Dartmoor rivers.

The majestic River Dart is one of Devon’s great rivers. The Dart winds its way from Dartmoor to the historic and popular estuary town of Dartmouth.  The Dart starts life as two distinct branches the East Dart and West Dart, which join at the pretty Dartmoor village of Dartmeet.

The upper reaches of the Dart are crossed in a number places by clapper bridges – an ancient form of bridge construction formed of granite slabs – most notably at the small moorland village of Postbridge, which is well worth a visit from Mill End.

After leaving the high moor, the Dart flows south through Buckfastleigh, Dartington and the eclectic market down of Totnes (which marks the start of the Dart’s tidal estuary).  From Totnes, boat trips are available along the Dart to Dartmouth.  From here on, the Dart widens dramatically, and is a sailing area of choice for many.  After passing through the town of Dartmouth, the river estuary meets the sea at a rocky and cliff-framed entrance, marked by Dartmouth Castle on the West side, and Kingswear Castle on the East side.

Whilst there are no bridges across the Dart south of Totnes, the river can be crossed at Dartmouth using one of two car/passenger ferries – the “Upper” and “Lower” ferries.
