Dartmoor’s many peaceful and secluded fishing spots…

Mill End is the perfect base for the visiting angler. Just a short walk from the rod room and you are on the banks of the River Teign, where the hotel owns a short stretch of the river. Upper Teign Fishing Association has a further six miles of fishing for brown trout, sea trout and salmon, available on a day ticket that can be purchased from the hotel reception.

Dartmoor rivers are varied, sometimes challenging, and always some of the most beautiful spots in the UK to cast a fly. There are many miles to explore, but the most popular rivers are the East and West Dart, along with Cherrybrook. The hotel can prepare a packed lunch for your day along with permits too.

If the rivers are not for you, Fernworthy is a 78-acre lake offering fishing for both wild and brown trout and is just a short drive from the hotel.

LEARN TO FISH DARTMOOR PACKAGE

Join well-known Westcountry fishing guide Pete Tyjas for a day’s fishing on the many streams of Dartmoor. Pete will pick you up from Mill End Hotel, where, over coffee, he will discuss the location for the day along with the strategies needed for success. Then, you will jump into his truck for the short drive into Dartmoor in search of trout.

You’ll need lightning reactions for these trout, and you will never encounter such aggressive fish despite their size. There is often a surprise big fish lurking in the deeper pools!

Pete likes to fish a light line on Dartmoor and will carry rods from Sage, Redington and Vision if you would like to try them.

This is a 1-to-1 day, and you will need to have had river fishing experience to get the most from your time, as it is not suited to the novice angler. There is also an element of walking involved over uneven ground.

Price for full-day guiding, overnight B&B as a single occupant and packed lunch included £350 (£370 on a weekend) or £200 per person sharing a twin room (£210 on a weekend).
